New parts of the LOTAR standard on their way to publication
The LOTAR project finalized five parts of the EN/NAS standards series for long-term archiving and retrieval of product data and prepared the documents for publication. Part 020 on “Governance and Preservation Planning” describes how the processes and responsibilities defined in ISO 14721 (Open Archive Information System, OAIS) shall be mapped on the organizational structures of the aerospace industry. Furthermore, three standards for 3D Geometry with Product and Manufacturing Information have been completed, which for the first time include requirements for semantic PMI and PMI in assemblies. Finally, the “Terms and References” document has been updated to its third edition. All five documents will now be handed over to the industry associations, ASD in Europe and AIA in America, for external ballot and subsequent publication mid of 2018.
In addition, all teams made a final review of the Draft International Standard (DIS) documentation for STEP AP242 2nd Edition, which will support a wide range of new and extended requirements across all LOTAR domains. Numerous pilot projects are planned in 2018 to support the deployment of these capabilities in several domains, including Electrical Harness as well as Engineering Analysis & Simulation.
